Thesis title:
The project investigates manuscripts from the central Middle Ages that preserve Latin ecclesiastical plainchant. These handwritten sources offer invaluable insight into medieval practices of musical notation, the creation, use, and dissemination of liturgical materials, and the cultural contexts through which the manuscripts circulated. By assembling fragmentary evidence using digital methods—such as computer vision–based paleographic analysis and large-scale data querying—the project seeks to bridge the gap between traditional approaches to provenance determination and the advanced analytical techniques now available.
